Fall in Nederland is perfect for portraits!

This fall in Colorado has been a photographer’s playground. The weather has been wonderful and the colors are truly amazing. It is almost as if anything I point my camera at comes out awesome……

We recently shot a portrait session up near Nederland, Colorado on a foggy Sunday morning that looked anything but a good day to shoot. Drizzle, gray, cool and cloudy was what the morning offered down in Denver. Hanging clouds, muted light and color would be ok….but there is always the potential to rise above the clouds here on the front range.

The gamble more than paid off and traveling up a cloud socked Boulder Canyon, the sun started to show through. Arriving in Nederland to find crystal clear blue skies and an unbelievable color palette to place an awesome couple in made the day.

A little girl, growing up fast.

I can tell you from experience, there is nothing that makes time fly faster than having a child. It takes amazing effort to stay present, be aware and just enjoy every moment that you can. Before you know it they have grown up!

I recently had the opportunity to photograph a beautiful young lady and her parents that started as clients years ago, when they interviewed me to photograph their wedding, and have now become friends. An engagement shoot, wedding, newborn and a number of family sessions have led to this body of work. This is the kind of experience that makes the job great. To be able to capture these precious life moments is a great honor and I appreciate being the one chosen to do it.

Thank you, young lady & your super parents, for including me in this journey!

Allicia & Porter…..a fabulous wedding at Four Seasons, Vail

On a beautiful afternoon at Four Seasons Resort in Vail, Colorado Allicia & Porter expressed their love for each other in front of friends, family and the spectacular backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. The couple and their wedding party made for fantastic images and a wonderful experience for all.

Sarah & Matt…..Four Seasons Resort, Vail

Another beautiful wedding shoot at Four Seasons Resort in Vail, Colorado. It is always a pleasure to shoot a fantastic couple in such a great setting on such a special day. We had some concerns about the weather but, though the clouds did build up, the rain held off until everyone was inside for dinner. Good timing on that. The Four Seasons is a wonderful place to shoot weddings and Vail Village offers such amazing locations to shoot memorable images.

Katie & Chris…..Wild Basin Lodge

Yet another great couple, Katie & Chris, at Wild Basin Lodge. Again, I was helping out my friend Dave Russell, shooting with his amazingly talented daughter, Meghan. It is definitely worth the time to check out Meghan’s awesome work at Visual Poetry by Meghan. This day at Wild Basin was at times wild to say the least. Right about the time the ceremony was to begin in “The Meadow”, Mother Nature decided to send in a very gusty yet short shower to seal the lucky couples wedding commitment. It was exciting to see and hear the umbrellas blow out backwards if an unlucky guest let the wind get in. Well, the storm quickly passed, the couple was pronounced and as the song my daughter loves goes……”out came the sun and dried up all the rain”. We were treated to some amazing light and a fabulous double rainbow, which made for some awesome images. What a wild day to remember.

Janeen & Michael…..Della Terra Mountain Chateau

What a great experience….shooting Janeen & Michaels fabulous wedding at the amazing Della Terra Mountain Chateau with Meghan Russell. It was a blast! Again, I was able to shoot for my friend Dave Russell and I couldn’t thank him more.

This wedding venue is awesome. Della Terra, located in Estes Park, Colorado was built for weddings and they got it right. From the ballroom to the preparation rooms, the wedding site to the unbelievably beautiful mountain setting; Della Terra offers photo ops that blow my mind. Every nook and cranny there has great image potential.

Janeen & Michael were fantastic as well. Not only are they a very photogenic couple but they were very excited to have great memories captured through our images. We were all over the place and they were game for anything and everything. Best of all it was very obvious that they were in love and enjoying every moment of their wedding day.

Tanya & Joe…. Four Seasons Resort, Vail

A project like this makes me love being a photographer. This last weekend I had the opportunity to shoot the wedding of some great friends in a beautiful setting. Tanya & Joe celebrated their wedding with family and friends at Four Seasons Resort in Vail and Angie & I not only helped make it possible but were able to be guests as well. Tanya shot our wedding seven years ago in Mexico so it really meant a lot to be able to shoot her wedding. The day was great, the venue is awesome and fun was had by all. Thanks for including us!

PEACE….Protection, Education, Animals, Culture & Environment

While recently on a typical photo-stroll through the village of Punta Mita, Mexico, I happened upon this hand-painted wall that I thought made an interesting image. Later, upon returning home and doing some editing, I came across the image again. Aside from being graphically interesting, I also found the message interesting and decided to look into what this meaning of PEACE may be. What I found was  that PEACE stands for Protection, Education, Animals, Culture & Environment. They are a community and environment centered non-profit that works along the coastal region of  the Mexican states of Jalisco and Nayarit surrounding the Bahia de Banderas. Their Mission, Vision and Values are as follows:

Mission:

PEACE works hand in hand with communities in Mexico to provide holistic education combined with community action programs that enable people to improve their quality of life as well as their financial stability.

Vision:

We envision a peaceful co-existence between human beings and natural treasures, between foreigners and locals, between those who can give and those who need assistance, between progress and preservation.

Values:

  • We believe in providing hands-on learning that results in empowerment, increased ownership and social responsibility.
  • We believe that one of our greatest responsibilities as beings on this earth is to protect the natural resources that surround us.
  • We believe it is of utmost importance to preserve and celebrate the richness and beauty of Mexican culture.

PEACE began in 2003 when one veterinarian with six volunteers formed Ayuda los Animales (Help the Animals) to help spay and neuter local animals. Since then they have continued to increase their scope of programs to help local communities.

Pueblo…..Punta Mita, Mexico

The Pueblo of Punta Mita, also know as Corral del Risco, has had a dramatic transformation from a quite fishing village to a host of high-end resorts like Four Seasons and St. Regis. The village is located outside of the gated community that encircles both resorts. There are a couple of great restaurants like Si Senior and Margaritas as well as a couple of cool surf breaks located there. A great place to visit.

Four Seasons Resort….Punta Mita, Mexico

We just had a super trip to Four Seasons Resort, Punta Mita, Mexico. They definitely took care of us. The resort, weather, food and especially the Kids for All Seasons were awesome.

Elsa gave the smoothies two thumbs up!
