Fall in Nederland is perfect for portraits!

This fall in Colorado has been a photographer’s playground. The weather has been wonderful and the colors are truly amazing. It is almost as if anything I point my camera at comes out awesome……

We recently shot a portrait session up near Nederland, Colorado on a foggy Sunday morning that looked anything but a good day to shoot. Drizzle, gray, cool and cloudy was what the morning offered down in Denver. Hanging clouds, muted light and color would be ok….but there is always the potential to rise above the clouds here on the front range.

The gamble more than paid off and traveling up a cloud socked Boulder Canyon, the sun started to show through. Arriving in Nederland to find crystal clear blue skies and an unbelievable color palette to place an awesome couple in made the day.

A baby on the way!

It is always a pleasure and an honor to photograph expecting parents. Anticipating the arrival of a new little one is so very exciting and special. We captured many of these beautiful images in the very spot where marriage was proposed….welcome to the next step and congratulations!

A little girl, growing up fast.

I can tell you from experience, there is nothing that makes time fly faster than having a child. It takes amazing effort to stay present, be aware and just enjoy every moment that you can. Before you know it they have grown up!

I recently had the opportunity to photograph a beautiful young lady and her parents that started as clients years ago, when they interviewed me to photograph their wedding, and have now become friends. An engagement shoot, wedding, newborn and a number of family sessions have led to this body of work. This is the kind of experience that makes the job great. To be able to capture these precious life moments is a great honor and I appreciate being the one chosen to do it.

Thank you, young lady & your super parents, for including me in this journey!

Ink the World…..Live art at the Sea Otter Sender.

The last stop of the Outlaws of Dirt, the Sea Otter Sender, was a great success. There were juniors, amateurs and pros pushing their limits and displaying unbelievable skill and talent on our “Best Trick” course. It was a real crowd pleaser and a super debut at the Sea Otter Classic.

The riders weren’t the only ones putting on a great show. Chad Carothers, founder and creative mind behind Index Ink clothing, worked tirelessly throughout the four days of the event to create a live art masterpiece. The mural, which will find a permanent home at Denver’s new Evolve Action Sports Park, began as a pile of lumber on Wednesday. By Sunday the “Ink the World” Mural was a frequent stopping point of the thousands of fans attending the event.

To be able to watch such a creative process unfold was a real treat and the Outlaws of Dirt and Evolve ASP are fortunate to have Chad be part of the program.

Outlaws of Dirt 2014 Sea Otter Sender

2014 has began as a great year for the Outlaws of Dirt series. The last stop, at the renown Sea Otter Classic, featured a “Best Trick” contest. The course was tight and technical, featuring a drop from the top of a shipping container, over a couple of rollers to a choice of lips graciously provided by Flow Form Ramps.

For four days the course, affectionately called the “ant hill”, was non-stop activity and action. Riders showed up throughout the day to refine their best trick arsenal. Sunday was competition day with juniors, a ton of amateurs and a good group of dedicated pros going at it. The level of skill and talent was amazing, with some pretty unbelievable accomplishments achieved.

The course was bedazzled with flags and banners of many of the fantastic sponsors that appreciate the opportunity to further the sport. KHS bicycles and Free Agent BMX, the title sponsors of the entire Outlaws series, were well represented as were our friends and Presenting Sponsor REV’D nutrition bars. Also sponsoring were Evolve Action Sports Park, Plus Size BMXTo Write Love on Her Arms, Atomlab, Alex Rims, Kali Protectives, Index Ink, Feedback Sports, VP Components, The Lumberyard and Red Bull. Anyone I have failed to mention, THANKS!

Thanks to the Outlaws of Dirt and the Sea Otter Classic for providing this awesome opportunity.

Valmont Bike Park hosts 2014 U.S. Nationals Cyclo-cross.

This past week the best cyclo-cross  riders descended, and climbed all around the Valmont Bike Park in Boulder, Colorado. The 2014 U.S. National Cylo-cross Championships had come to town. I had the opportunity to go out to watch one race, the U23 Championship. These guys were hungry, skilled and aggressive. The winner was first-year under-23 racer Logan Owen. With the win Logan will wear the “Stars & Stripes” jersey, as he represents the United States in the U-23 World Cyclo-cross Championships later this spring. The work put into creating this World-class venue was obvious and the fans were treated to great competitions.

Sugar Beet….a community driven park gets a dedication.

The Sugar Beet Bike Park in Brighton, Colorado finally got its much given dedication and opening celebration. The park, driven through the process by Logan Holland and conceptualized and designed by Plus Size BMX, had its day in the sun with music, BBQ, clinics and some big tricks. Just the way a park should.

Downtown Jamming…..the SE Bikes Team descends on Denver.

With torrential rains all over Colorado’s front range, a blue hole formed over downtown Denver just in time for some wild riding. Plus Size BMX along with TRVE Brewing hosted an improvised sidewalk jam for visiting SE Bikes Team riders. Kris Fox, Pat “Big Daddy” Laughlin, Josh Clemens and Ross Lanier got up close and personal with fans and pedestrians alike on the sidewalk of South Broadway for a quick “up-box” jam. Locals came out to join the fun as well, with Colorado local DJ Brandt showing everyone that he too could rip it up on a 20″ bike.

Later the crew moved on to the Denver Skate Park and were treated to a fantastic sunset and some sick tricks. Not a bad night for Friday the 13th!
