This past week the best cyclo-cross riders descended, and climbed all around the Valmont Bike Park in Boulder, Colorado. The 2014 U.S. National Cylo-cross Championships had come to town. I had the opportunity to go out to watch one race, the U23 Championship. These guys were hungry, skilled and aggressive. The winner was first-year under-23 racer Logan Owen. With the win Logan will wear the “Stars & Stripes” jersey, as he represents the United States in the U-23 World Cyclo-cross Championships later this spring. The work put into creating this World-class venue was obvious and the fans were treated to great competitions.

Friends of Barnum North Bike Park…..working to keep Denver’s downtown park great.
The Friends of Barnum North Bike Park, Plus Size BMX, Gromspot, the City of Denver, BikeDenver.org and Winter Park Resorts held an fantastic event on a cloudy and then rainy Saturday this October. The event featured great riding, free hotdogs and a wonderful raffle where Denver’s own Mayor Michael Hancock presented a lucky winner with a new bike. The “friends” maintain the park as volunteers headed up by Nick Solonincka, of Salvagetti’s Bike Shop and park designer Phil Rowe. Thanks to all that showed up and too bad it rained so hard.
Valmont Bike Park…..what better place to spend a Sunday afternoon
Sunday morning, a quick text and I was off to the Valmont Bike Park in Boulder, Colorado to shoot some great riding. Collin Hudson was home for a day in his busy summer of BMX competition. He is off again tomorrow for more races. Thanks for the show and good luck.
Journey’s Backyard BBQ….a HOT stop in Denver
Yesterday I had the opportunity to shoot the Denver stop of Journey’s Backyard BBQ with Plus Size BMX and Six Twenty 4 magazine. The Backyard BBQ is a national tour of some awesome action sports, music and fun. The day was record-breaking hot but the show was even hotter. There were sponsors galore handing out goodies, a battle of the bands and Etnies team riders getting rad in the pipe, ramps and even a giant pool. The Metal Mulisha put on quite and arial exhibition despite the heat and some strong winds. lots of water, sunscreen and fun.
2012 Teva Slope-style…..a great event with a great assistant.
The 2012 Teva Mountain Games were again held in Vail, Colorado and this year’s Slope-style event was better than ever. The features were bigger and the competitors were ready to make their mark on this stellar event. I was fortunate to have a very patient 5 yr old assistant who’s creativity was impressive as she came up with names for many of the tricks we saw.
I did notice that I was the only photographer shooting the event with a 45lb. child on their shoulders.
