Valmont Bike Park hosts 2014 U.S. Nationals Cyclo-cross.

This past week the best cyclo-cross  riders descended, and climbed all around the Valmont Bike Park in Boulder, Colorado. The 2014 U.S. National Cylo-cross Championships had come to town. I had the opportunity to go out to watch one race, the U23 Championship. These guys were hungry, skilled and aggressive. The winner was first-year under-23 racer Logan Owen. With the win Logan will wear the “Stars & Stripes” jersey, as he represents the United States in the U-23 World Cyclo-cross Championships later this spring. The work put into creating this World-class venue was obvious and the fans were treated to great competitions.

A big day for Big Tex

On a weird day in Colorado that had mid-day temps in the 60’s then snow by afternoon a young Texas stud put on quite a show at Valmont Bike Park in Boulder. Not to be deterred by gusting winds, Plus Size BMX & Black Market Bikes rider Clayton Shank no-handered, whipped and flipped off the best of what this park has to offer. Near empty on a beautiful Monday in January, the few that were on hand got to see some phenomenal riding by this young man.

Big Tex or Mr. Clayton, as my 6 year old calls him, holds a special place in our hearts. He is Elsa’s de facto private bike instructor and according to her is “the man”. I couldn’t ask for a better role model.

Monday mountain bike air…..A couple of pros at Valmont Bike Park

It is really special when a group of friends get together to put on a show at the local bike park. Clayton Shank, a Colorado rider, played host to visiting California pro mountain bikers Jake Kinney James Visser. The audience today, on a quiet Monday at Valmont Bike Park, were a number of us trying to capture fantastic skills and some fortunate local talent. These guys laid it town and tore it up.

 

 

Labor Day Jam…..dirt jump fest at Valmont Bike Park

What a crew on a hot breezy Labor Day at the Valmont Bike Park. The dirt jumpers were out in force and there is no better way to get the best out of a bunch of talented riders than to break out the camera! The boys from Plus Size BMX put on quite a show along with World BMX Champ Collin Hudson and a slew of local talent. Limits were pushed, some successful some not, but it all made for some great shots.

Sunday morning, a quick text and I was off to the Valmont Bike Park in Boulder, Colorado to shoot some great riding. Collin Hudson was home for a day in his busy summer of BMX competition. He is off again tomorrow for more races. Thanks for the show and good luck.

Valmont Bike Park…..Memorial Day air

Well, yesterday was a fun-filled day to say the least. Woke up and headed for the Bolder Boulder to support the family and shoot some pics, then coordinate a pick-up from the grandparents and find time to get out to the Valmont Bike Park to shoot some big air. What a day.

The riders were great and I was happy to shoot as long as I could before I had to hustle back to go to the Boulder Creek Fest. It is important to never miss out on anything.

Wow, what a place! Thanks to the hard work and dedication of an amazing group of organizations, companies and individuals; the Valmont Bike Park has gone from dream to reality. This little piece of paradise located within the city limits of Boulder, Colorado provides a wonderful mix of trails, tracks, jumps and features to please all types and skill levels of off-road cyclists. We made our first visit today and everyone had a blast. I was psyched that there was a group of awesome riders getting big air in the jump park who were willing to put up with me and my gear.
