Frisco Bike Park…..going big in the thin air

Located at 9075 feet above sea level in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the Frisco Bike Park is not a place for the faint of heart. Dual slalom courses, loads of jump lines and a pump track for the kiddos make this a place to bring both the family and the bike quiver. A brief stop on a Saturday in August made for some cool images of some locals tearing it up.

Colorado Freeride Festival…..Shimano Slopestyle does it right.

This past weekend Winter Park Resort and the Trestle Bike Park hosted some of the best mountain bike riders on earth for four days of extreme, high-altitude action. I had the opportunity to shoot the Shimano Slopestyle competition for Plus Size BMX and Six Twenty Four Magazine and had a blast. The weather played a bit of havoc but that seems to be normal this summer. At least this time only the competition was hot.

Journey’s Backyard BBQ….a HOT stop in Denver

Yesterday I had the opportunity to shoot the Denver stop of Journey’s Backyard BBQ with Plus Size BMX and Six Twenty 4 magazine. The Backyard BBQ is a national tour of some awesome action sports, music and fun. The day was record-breaking hot but the show was even hotter. There were sponsors galore handing out goodies, a battle of the bands  and Etnies team riders getting rad in the pipe, ramps and even a giant pool. The Metal Mulisha put on quite and arial exhibition despite the heat and some strong winds. lots of water, sunscreen and fun.

Dirt Jump Mania…..Plus Size BMX puts on a huge event at the Lyons Outdoor Games

WOW! That is the perfect way to describe the show that the riders, organizers and fans put on at this year’s dirt jump event at the Lyons Outdoor Games. The boys from Plus Size BMX and a bunch of local riders built a masterpiece at the Lyons dirt jump park and the competitors came to play. It was an event to remember to say the least.

The competition was fierce from the amateurs to the pros all to be topped off by a best trick session that should go down in history. The wind was howling, a 40 year old man threw a 720 and a flip-whip stole the show. It was hard to edit all of the super images down to even this many. All in a days work.

2012 Teva Slope-style…..a great event with a great assistant.

The 2012 Teva Mountain Games were again held in Vail, Colorado and this year’s Slope-style event was better than ever. The features were bigger and the competitors were ready to make their mark on this stellar event. I was fortunate to have a very patient 5 yr old assistant who’s creativity was impressive as she came up with names for many of the tricks we saw.

I did notice that I was the only photographer shooting the event with a 45lb. child on their shoulders.

Valmont Bike Park…..Memorial Day air

Well, yesterday was a fun-filled day to say the least. Woke up and headed for the Bolder Boulder to support the family and shoot some pics, then coordinate a pick-up from the grandparents and find time to get out to the Valmont Bike Park to shoot some big air. What a day.

The riders were great and I was happy to shoot as long as I could before I had to hustle back to go to the Boulder Creek Fest. It is important to never miss out on anything.

2012 Annular Solar Eclipse…..cool

Last night we went to City Park, Denver in front of the Museum of Nature & Science to see the solar eclipse. Armed with our eclipse shades, we joined the hundreds of others to witness this interesting phenomena. Here is one shot of the action, which was a challenge to capture. I was wearing my shades and looking through the viewfinder. Not a real high hit rate on good frames but a fun time.

Lakeside Amusement Park……a five minute session with the new iPhone

Today, while my daughter was at ballet, I went for a walk. There was some sort of accident on Sheridan and the traffic was backed up big time. There was obvious consternation from the masses attempting to go about. I could tell by the honking of horns, which is what drew me over to the Lakeside Amusement Park. I drive by Lakeside a couple of times a week and am always taken by the place. It is like it is frozen in time. I have intended to shoot some images here but never gotten around to figuring out a plan, what time, what lenses, what story to tell? These were all issues that kept me from doing anything. Well. I had a couple of minutes today before I had to pick up Elsa and as the old adage says….the best camera for the job is the one you have with you….right?!?!

I had my phone. Not just any phone, it was my new iphone4stuvwxyz or whatever they are calling them now. I got this phone for the camera that it has. It is really cool and convenient. I have seen lots of guys doing iphone projects but my old iphone camera was the pits. Well the new phone is great and I think the story that I got from Lakeside today is cool. I hope you like it.
